Dr. Veronica Gunn has more than twenty years of experience in clinical practice, research, policy and health care administration, and utilizes these experiences to develop evidence-based strategies to improve health outcomes in sustainable ways. Her experiences as a pediatrician, a health outcomes researcher and in health policy roles at the state and national levels give Dr. Gunn a unique perspective on systems-based approaches to sustainably improve health.
With Sara, she co-founded one of the first pediatric health innovation programs in the nation, supporting the development and implementation of novel models of care delivery and providing consultation to other health systems on pediatric health management.
Prior to leading health system transformation for a prominent pediatric health system, Dr. Gunn served as the Chief Medical Officer for the Tennessee Department of Health, where she developed and implemented legislative and administrative policies to improve the health of Tennesseans. Dr. Gunn is frequently invited to speak at industry, clinical and policy conferences internationally.
She earned her undergraduate degree at Rhodes College and her medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She completed pediatric residency and chief residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Gunn obtained a master in public health with concentrations in health policy and analysis and injury and violence prevention from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Gunn is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is a board-certified pediatrician.
Sara Steines Newstead
With over fifteen years of experience in health policy, change management and health systems administration, Sara Steines Newstead leads the creative and effective redesign of healthcare systems at the national, state and local level.
With Veronica, she co-founded one of the first pediatric population health programs in the nation, garnering national recognition for its innovative approach to pediatric health.
Prior to leading change within a nationally-recognized pediatric health system, she served as a senior advisor to executives in the private and public sector, including a role as lead health policy advisor to Senator Russ Feingold (WI). Ms. Newstead is a frequent lecturer on the Affordable Care Act and the evolution of health care delivery systems at national conferences, issue forums and universities.
She earned her undergraduate degree at the College of William and Mary, and her master in public policy, with a concentration in health policy, at Georgetown University.
